GLI released its 2016 Legislative Agenda, along with the organization’s long-term policy and bi-state initiatives at its Elected Officials Appreciation Dinner on Monday.
“The 2016 session of the Kentucky General Assembly will be extremely important for the future of Commonwealth,” said Sarah Davasher-Wisdom, Senior Vice President, Public Affairs & Strategy. “GLI is thrilled to unveil an ambitious agenda that will help guide the discussion for 2016 and beyond. We are pushing for serious reforms to put Kentucky on the road to prosperity.”
As the region’s largest business leadership organization, GLI engages the area’s public and private sectors in developing a strong pro-business advocacy program for the entire Greater Louisville Region. The organization engages a broad cross-section of the business community to help craft policy positions on economic development, education, infrastructure, environmental and energy, tax, and health care issues. The agenda is aligned with Advantage Louisville, GLI’s comprehensive regional economic growth strategy.
“GLI is proud to celebrate the elected officials working to advance the economy in our 15 county, bi-state region by promoting a pro-business environment and facilitating business leadership engagement on issues that impact regional competitiveness,” said GLI President and CEO Kent Oyler. “GLI is in the business of advocating for business-friendly policies at the local, state, and federal levels.”
This year’s elected officials recognition event featured some friendly barbs in a format similar to the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. Bob Heleringer, Louisville attorney and former state legislator, served as “Comedian-in-Chief.” Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer and GLI President and CEO Kent Oyler roasted legislators and business leaders. The goal of the annual event is to provide important information in a fun-filled atmosphere where the emphasis is on solidarity and success.
