Former United States Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood was keynote speaker at GLI’s Top Investor event on October 29 at the Seelbach. The straight-talking Lahood discussed our region’s transportation infrastructure in front of 130 business and government leaders.
The Secretary praised the leadership of Kentucky and Indiana for the successful bridges project. Secretary LaHood’s LaHood told the crowd, “If this region is going to continue to grow. If you’re going to continue to attract younger people, the smart people that are coming out of colleges, you’re going to have that kind of multi-modal transportation system.” LaHood, a Republican, who served in both the Bush and Obama administrations, decried the bipartisan rancor and paralysis, and lack of long-term infrastructure funding.
The event also featured the latest information on the Infrastructure Report Card from the American Society of Civil Engineers and a few words from Kentucky Secretary of Transportation, Mike Hancock.
Multi-modal transport is a key priority of GLI. Our organization has urged local, state and federal leaders to provide adequate and sustainable funding sources for the five major modes of transportation in the short and long-term to create a world-class multimodal transportation system.
