Greater Louisville Inc., the Metro Chamber of Commerce (GLI), will once again host its popular advocacy initiative, the D.C. Fly In, a two-day event that takes GLI members to Washington D.C. to help establish and grow important relationships with elected officials that represent the region.
The two-day trip offers attendees the opportunity to meet with members of Kentucky and Indiana’s Congressional Delegations, including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, agency officials, Congressional staffs and legislative experts to discuss critical federal policy issues facing Kentucky and the nation. The D.C. Fly In agenda is also chock full of extensive networking opportunities, including a cocktail reception that will be attended by a significant number of members of the Congressional Delegations and specific issues briefings with key members of Congress, and the White House and senior staffs.
Attendees will also have the chance to meet with former Louisville Mayor and Kentucky Lieutenant Governor Jerry Abramson, who just recently accepted the position of Director of the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs. President Barack Obama has tasked Abramson with reaching out to state governments to help facilitate regional and state initiatives such as the ongoing implementation the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
GLI last hosted a D.C. Fly In in 2009 after which it was decided to redistribute the organization’s advocacy resources to more local and regional needs. Continuing globalization of the marketplace has once again made national business policies more of a priority for regions that want to become and stay more aggressively competitive.
The two-day trip includes ground transportation, one-night hotel accommodations at The Mandarin Oriental, lunch with a prominent thought leader as speaker, as well as the cocktail reception. The cost per person is $1,200.
